Luke Lazarus is the company founder, which he named after himself.

Lazarus was born in Sydney, Australia, on 11 November 1969 to a Greek father and an Irish mother.

He grew up in the suburb of Northbridge, where his parents owned a restaurant called The Blue Door Cafe.

Lazarus attended St Joseph’s College, Hunters Hill, before moving to Melbourne at age 17 to attend Monash University, majoring in economics.

Lazarus began his career as an investment banker with Merrill Lynch in London but left after two years to pursue a business degree from Harvard Business School.

After graduating, he worked for McKinsey & Company, where he met his future wife, Susan Lazaridis.

In 1996, he founded the consulting firm Lazard Asset Management, which focused on asset management and private equity.

In 1999, he started the Australian real estate fund Lazard Real Estate Partners (Lazards), which has since grown into one of Australia’s most significant property funds.

Luke Lazarus benefited from the financial crisis of 2007–2008 by selling off assets that were not core to the business.

This allowed him to raise capital without selling any of his shares.

According to the Financial Review, “The sale of Lazard’s US-based insurance unit, Lazard Insurance Group, to AIG for $1.6 billion in 2008 helped it avoid a debt default.”

Luke Lazarus aimed to become the wealthiest man in Australia and the world. His net worth is estimated to be around $2.5 billion.

He has donated money to various charities, including the Cancer Council, the Royal Children’s Hospital, the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the Australian Red Cross, and the Australian Diabetes Society.
